Welcome to the Saxtons River Elementary School!
The Saxtons River Elementary School is a small K-5 school with one classroom at each grade level. We currently average about 18 students per classroom. We serve families from throughout the Town of Rockingham, including the Villages of Saxtons River and Bellows Falls. Students move on to the Bellows Falls Middle School after completing fifth grade. The school has a long tradition of academic excellence and high levels of parent and community volunteerism. It enjoys substantial community support.
While Saxtons River School shares much of the educational programming, such as the Everyday Math and Collins Writing Programs, with the other schools in the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union, it has a particular focus in arts-based education and experiential learning. The school has ongoing collaborative arrangements with Main Street Arts, the Nature Museum at Grafton, Great River Arts Institute, Paul Hoak Kidstrengths, Vermont Academy, and a number of other individuals and organizations that provide educational services. The SRES Parent-Teachers’ Organization is a very active group in the life of the school. It has most recently been focusing on improving opportunities for after-school activities for students. There is an active winter sports program, spring arts interest groups, and a mentoring program with students from
Vermont Academy, a neighboring prep school. It is anticipated that band instrument lessons will be available to fifth graders after school during the 2007-2008 school year. In addition, we plan school-wide themes, such as wellness, diversity awareness, and “the forest”, each year which support a wide variety of activities.
We welcome your inquiries about the school and the Saxtons River community. Please give our administrative assistant, Janet Brennan, a call at 869-2637, or send an email to jbrenna@wnesu.net.
