Fourth Grade is a year of transition and growth: academically, physically, and mentally. This year we will explore many topics in science, learning to use the scientific method to question ourselves continually. Social studies has a heavy emphasis on Vermont: its history, geography, and government.

Everyday Math will continue to be our focus of learning during our math time as well as the level 4 "non-negotiables." Computation facts: addition and subtraction with an increased understanding of multiplication and division will be covered. Algebra, measurement, rates, geometry, and fractions will also be explored.

During our literacy block we will explore various genres both in large and small group settings. We will incorporate literature throughout our thematic units as well.

Kansas Writing will be used to introduce simple, compound, and complex sentences. We will also explore the paragraph writing strategy which we will use in our written portfolio pieces: response to literature, report, personal essay, and poetry.
