Kansas Writing is an amazing writing program that fourth graders will use this year. Kansas Writing is based out of the University of Kansas and focuses on the three sentence types: simple, compound, and complex. It then moves students through the process of paragraph and essay writing, maintaining a structure that is fluid and easy to use.
We are currently working on the four types of simple sentences:
1. Subject/Verb
2. Subject/Subject/Verb
3. Subject/Verb/Verb
4. Subject/Subject/Verb/Verb
Students have been introduced to the 5 rules of sentences:
1. Begin with a capital letter
2. End with correct punctuation (. or ! or ?)
3. Choose a subject
4. Choose a Verb
5. Make sure the sentence makes sense (does your subject work with your verb)?
PENS and MARK will help us remember our sentence writing rules!
